Motridal manufactures drag chain conveyors for every industrial field: from small cleaning chains, up to heavyduty high-capacity (more than 1.000 t/h) chain feeders and conveyors.

These machines represent the most suitable solution for horizontal, inclined, or vertical transport of bulk materials, especially in case of particular environmental needs or material characteristics (temperature, abrasiveness…).

Motridal’s range of production includes both central chain and double chain conveyors, with round steel chains (for double chain feeders and cleaning chains) or forked links chains (for central chain and double chain conveyors). Central chain conveyors are available also in a reversible type: thanks to its reversible and interchangeable heads, these machines can transport the material in both directions.

Motridal manufactures a wide range of central chain conveyors, with sizes up to 25”. The chain of these conveyors is made of drop-forged links in 18 NiCrMo 5 casehardened and tempered. Self-aligning “V-shaped” flights are welded to the chain links. These flights are raking, in order to prevent material build-up on the bottom of the conveyor. This type of machine allows to convey the material with horizontal and vertical paths simultaneously.

The size of double chain conveyors can reach 55”, thanks to the presence of two traction elements, which allow the use of longer flights. For these machines, Motridal uses special designed drop-forged forked links in 18 NiCrMo 5 casehardened and tempered. Flights are fixed by means of special pins to the chain links. The chain guides made in wear-resistant steel are bolted to the internal side of the conveyor casing.

Cleaning chains are used to collect and recycle the material spilled from open conveyors (belt conveyors, pan conveyors, apron conveyors…) in order to reduce waste and environmental pollution. These machines are built with standard components (round steel chains, standardized drive and tail wheels…) and they are adapted, each time, to the plant. The use of standard components allows minimizing the stock of spare parts required, reducing as much as possible maintenance costs.

Ash Cooling And Conveying Systems Submerged chain conveyors are usually positioned under the furnace throats in order to collect hot ashes. Ashes are cooled by the water and conveyed along the horizontal section of the conveyor; then, along the sloping section, thanks to the slow speed of the chain, the water drains and the material is conveyed outside.

Chain Feeders Chain conveyors are also used as silos and hoppers discharging devices. In these conveyors the material is conveyed by the upper strand of the chain, thanks to a double bottom which separates the material from the return strand.

Vertical Chain Conveyors Special-purpose chain conveyors, equipped with false bottom, allow conveying materials with slopes up to 90°. This type of machines is often used with an horizontal/vertical/horizontal configuration.

Reversible Chain Conveyors Central chain conveyors are also available in a reversible version, which allows conveying material in both directions.

Drive Head The drive unit is composed by electric motor, belt drive and gear unit directly coupled on the drive shaft. The gear unit is mounted on a supporting frame with torque arm and rubber shock absorber. The electric motor is supported by a sliding saddle, for belt take-up. The type of gear unit is selected considering, each time, the particular type of application. Lowpower machines are usually equipped with coaxial gear-motors with chain drive.
Tensioning System Chain tensioning is achieved by means of volute springs and adjusting screws. The bearing supports of the tail head are mounted on a sliding frame which sets the proper tension value.
Wheels Double chain conveyors feature sprocket wheels at the drive head and polygonal wheels at tail head, while both drive and tail head of central chain conveyors are equipped with sprocket wheels. All chain wheels are made of C45 and Hardox 400 antiwear material, with interchangeable sectors which can be easily replaced without dismounting the chain.
